Development of Approaches to Advance Accepting Foreign Researchers from Asian Countries for the Strategic Promotion of International Activities in Asia

"Strategic promotion of international activities" has been positioned one of important policies in the 3rd Basic Plan of Science and Technology (march, 2006). Strengthening international science and technology cooperation, the research diversity and the improvement of research level by accepting outstanding foreign researchers should be performed while Japanese researchers are fostered into world level ones. The expectation at home and abroad should be fulfilled through reinforcing science and technology community in Asia, strengthening the science and technology coordination with Asian countries, promoting researchers exchange, constructing networks, and corresponding to common problems in Asia.

This commissioned research is aimed at developing approaches to internationalize domestic research environment, through analyses of research environment for foreign researchers from Asian countries, needs and problems for them and Japanese research institutions and companies, and problems in the promotion of successive and evolving exchange after their return to home countries.
