JISTEC performs administrative tasks, offers support for daily life and provides other services for hosting foreign researchers in the JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship (Short-term) for North American and European Researchers [1]. Specific services include communicating and coordinating with foreign researchers and with their hosting research institutions and other parties, providing information on living in Japan, including information on housing, and editing newsletters. JISTEC also sends out and performs administrative tasks for those newsletters as part of its activities for the Summer Program [2] and the Assistance to Researchers Wishing to Receive Doctorate by Submitting Thesis [3]

[1]JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship (Short-term) for North American and European Researchers
By providing overseas scientists with research opportunities at Japanese universities and institutions, the programs of the JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship for Foreign Researchers are designed to help them carry out their research while contributing to the advancement of science in Japan and abroad. JISTEC is assigned to conduct one of those programs, the JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship (Short-term) for North American and European Researchers, which is a short-term program (lasting from 1 to 12 months) for young pre- or post-doctoral researchers from Europe and North America.
[2]Summer Program
A program to invite pre- or post-doctoral researchers from Europe and North America to Japan for a two-month stay in summer and provide them with orientation on Japanese culture and research systems, as well as with research opportunities under Japanese researchers.
[3]Assistance to Researchers Wishing to Receive Doctorate by Submitting Thesis
A program to assist highly capable researchers from Asian and African countries in receiving doctorates from Japanese graduate schools by submitting their theses, without completing the curriculums of those graduate schools.
