Support and Coordination Project for University Cooperation in International Development (SCP)

Under the International Development Cooperation Support Center Project, commenced in fiscal 2003, Japanese national, public and private universities are consigned with developing country cooperation projects from Japanese development assistance agencies or international organizations, and undertake practical educational research and other activities while being supplied with outside capital. The purpose of the project is to send out persons possessing practical experience into the international community, in providing support that contributes to sustained global development. Based on the International Education Cooperation Discussion report compiled by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in August 2006, meanwhile, International Cooperation Initiative activities have been underway since fiscal 2007 as one phase of intellectual contributions to the sustained progress of developing nations.

The goal of the International Development Cooperation Support Center Project is to promote international assistance activities utilizing the “wisdom” of universities targeted in the International Cooperation Initiative. Relations are forged and bolstered between educators, including those from development assistance agencies and non-governmental organizations, and universities, with support activities also advanced to establish on-campus systems necessary for individual universities to undertake developing country cooperation projects. In addition to this, the holding of related seminars, supplying of information and individual consultations are used to assist the universities in laying the foundations for such efforts.

JISTEC supports the operations of this project in the interest of promoting smooth implementation of International Cooperation Initiative activities.
