JISTEC maintains and manages two lodging facilities for foreign researchers, Ninomiya House and Takezono House, both of which are owned by the Japan Science and Technology Agency. We also provide the residents in these facilities, who are foreign researchers working at public research institutions in the Tsukuba district and their families, with daily living support services, as well as opportunities for international exchanges with other researchers, whether residents in the lodging facilities or not, thus promoting science and technology exchanges.
JISTEC has been providing these maintenance and management services ever since the establishment of Takezono House and Ninomiya House in 1991 and 2001, respectively.
As more international exchanges take place in Tsukuba Science City, the number of residents in both lodging facilities is growing steadily, with the last three-year average occupancy rate standing at about 85 percent. In fiscal 2009, both facilities were used by 26 universities and research institutions in Tsukuba, providing accommodation for about 880 households of researchers and their families from 77 countries and regions.
